Introduction. Aesthetic gymnastics is a relatively young but actively developing sport, attracting attention with its spectacularity, expressiveness, and variety of technical elements [2]. Every year, the requirements for the gymnasts' preparedness steadily increase. Waves and swings are among the key elements of competitive routines, and their successful execution requires athletes to have a clear motor representation and a high level of body control [1].
The aim of the research is to determine the indicators of the level of technical preparedness of highly qualified female gymnasts in aesthetic gymnastics when performing waves and swings.
Methods and organization of the research. To determine the level of technical preparedness, control exercises were used: waves (forward, lateral, backward) and swings (forward, side-to-side, with a change of direction). Each exercise was performed twice, with the best result counting towards the score. Evaluation was carried out on a five-point scale in accordance with the rules of aesthetic gymnastics competitions. The expert commission consisted of six highly qualified specialists. The pedagogical experiment involved 16 gymnasts from the Russian national team and the Russian University of Cooperation "GCOLIFK" (team "Amuazh"), holding the title of "Master of Sports of Russia" (8 people in each group). The age of the participants was from 21 to 25 years.
Results and discussion. The mean group scores in all three types of waves turned out to be low. The highest result was obtained for the lateral wave (3.13 points in the experimental group), the lowest for the backward wave (2.88 points in both groups). In all cases, the level of technical skill is assessed as below average. A similar picture was observed when evaluating swings. The expert evaluation for the performance of three types of swings ranged from 2.88 to 3.13 points, which also corresponds to a below-average level.
Conclusions. According to the results of performing six control exercises (three types of waves and three types of swings), highly qualified gymnasts demonstrated a below-average level of technical preparedness (2.88–3.13 points out of five possible). The backward wave and the swing with a change of direction turned out to be the most difficult elements for the athletes. The obtained data indicate the need for a systematic improvement of the technique of special elements of aesthetic gymnastics, including through the development and implementation of a specialized training methodology.
