Abstract

Objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of applying isometric exercises in the special strength training of qualified volleyball players. Methods and structure of the study. 16 qualified young male volleyball players (qualification no lower than candidate for master of sport) aged 18-25, constituting the main squad of the higher league team ANO “Volleyball Club Kama” (Perm), took part in the scientific work. The assessment of the effectiveness of applying isometric exercises was carried out using the following indicators: height of vertical jumps without arm swing and with arm swing (cm), assessed by tensometry using the double Force Decks tensoplatform; strength of the hand and forearm muscles for the left and right hands and strength of the trunk extensors, assessed by dynamometry (DK hand dynamometer and DS-200 back dynamometer); time of performing the control test “Plank” (s); distance when performing the control test “Throw of a 1 kg ball from behind the head with two hands, seated” (m); calculated data of video analysis of official matches: serve effectiveness (%), “block height” (cm), “percentage of won blocks” (%), attacking hit effectiveness (%). During the mathematical processing of the results, the arithmetic mean and standard deviation (x̄±σ), the dynamics indicator (relative change, %) and the effect size (ES) were calculated. The verification of hypotheses about the significance of statistical differences in the athletes’ indicators over the study period was carried out using the calculation of the Wilcoxon test for the 5% significance level. Results and conclusions. The application of isometric exercises ensures statistically significant increases in the strength ability indicators of qualified volleyball players, including those manifested in jumps and requiring strength endurance, and also ensures an increase in the effectiveness of their competitive activity (serves, blocking and attacking hits).
