Abstract
Objective of the study is to identify the features of the manifestation of emotional burnout (EB) symptoms in physical education teachers of general education schools depending on their age, gender and length of service. Methods and structure of the study. The sample comprised 1,770 respondents from 38 subjects of the Russian Federation representing all federal districts. For the diagnosis of emotional burnout, an author’s questionnaire was used, comprising 6 sections and based on the MBI methodology, as adapted by N.E. Vodopyanova and E.S. Starchenkova. Results and conclusions. Based on the results of the study of EB among physical education teachers, the highest levels (over 25%) were identified in the age groups of 31–40 and 41–50 years. In women, the mean EB scores are significantly higher than in men (p<0.05). The main stress factors are low salary (62.9%), reporting (42.8%) and high workload (26.2%). Stress manifests as headaches (37.6%), cardiovascular symptoms (26.3%), and decreased immunity (21.0%). The main coping resources are communication with close ones (59.4%), vacation (58.0%), and hobbies (49.0%). Priority EB prevention measures: salary increase (79.7%) and fair criteria for evaluating work (43.8%). The results can be used for developing targeted burnout prevention programmes, especially for teachers in the middle age group.
