Abstract

Objective of the study is to examine the attitude of future special education teachers and pediatricians towards adaptive physical culture classes for children with disabilities. Methods and structure of the study. The scientific work employed an author-designed questionnaire, developed with the participation of teachers and researchers from relevant Russian universities and research institutes. Three groups of students voluntarily took part in the study: the first group – first- and second-year bachelor students (full-time) of the Institute of Defectological Education and Rehabilitation (IDOIR) of Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia; the second group – third- and fourth-year bachelor students (full-time) of the same institute; the third group – first-year students of the Pediatric Medical University. The rationale for including the third group was the researchers' understanding of this cohort's conscious choice of the medical profession. Results and conclusions. The results of the study indicate students' understanding of the importance of physical culture. The analysis of the data revealed significant differences in the understanding of the necessity of adaptive physical culture classes between junior and senior students. The closest figures were the indicators of the first and third groups (1st–2nd year IDOIR and 1st year of the Pediatric Medical University), which may be regarded as evidence of effective career guidance at these universities. The overall indicator among senior students is higher, and a smaller spread of responses can be observed here, which also confirms a well-organised pedagogical process. The results obtained in the work may be used for career guidance for senior school pupils and for the prevention and ongoing monitoring of professional burnout.
