A study of the relationship between conflict resolution culture and emotional intelligence among physical education teachers in higher education

Abstract

Objective of the study is to identify the relationship between conflict management culture and emotional intelligence among physical education instructors at universities. Methods and structure of the study. To conduct the empirical study aimed at identifying this relationship, three methods were used: "Diagnosis of the Level of Conflict Culture (CC) in a Specialist's Personality" by O.I. Shcherbakova; a questionnaire by M.A. Manoilova; and N. Hall's emotional intelligence test. Results and conclusions. The results of the study of the integral level of emotional intelligence using the methods of N. Hall and M.A. Manoilova revealed some discrepancies related to the algorithm for their implementation; however, in the authors' opinion, M.A. Manoilova's questionnaire provides a more realistic picture of the levels of emotional intelligence among physical education teachers. Correlation analysis showed that conflict management culture is associated with numerous components of an individual's emotional intelligence (awareness of one's own emotions, management of one's own emotions, self-motivation, recognition of others' emotions), and also that as the emotional intelligence of physical education teachers develops, their level of conflict management culture increases, and, conversely, as the conflict management culture of physical education teachers develops, their level of emotional intelligence increases.
