Abstract

Objective of the study is to determine the impact of modern musical styles – subcultures – on the functional and mental state of young athletes. Methods and structure of the study. The present study was conducted at the laboratory of functional diagnostics of the Department of Human Biology and the Fundamentals of Medical Knowledge at I.N. Ulyanov Ulyanovsk State Pedagogical University at the beginning of the first academic semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. The study involved first-year students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Sports aged 18 to 20, totalling 70 people (40 young men and 30 young women). In accordance with the aim of this study, changes in the parameters of the functional and mental states of the participants under the influence of rock, rap and electronic music were determined. Results and conclusions. The study revealed a deterioration in the functional state (indicators of the cardiorespiratory system) and an increase in the level of situational anxiety of athletes aged 18–20 under the influence of music from modern youth genres. Young people appear to be the most vulnerable to the negative impact of rock music compared with electronic music and rap.
