Objective of the study. To evaluate the effectiveness of the training process of hockey players aged 10–13 years based on the application of a comprehensive assessment of sports preparedness.

Methodology and organization of the study. The research was conducted from 2022 to 2025 at the bases of specialized ice hockey sports schools in Moscow. The study involved 40 young athletes aged 10–13 years engaged in hockey at the stage of sports specialization. To test the effectiveness of the training process of hockey players aged 10–13 years within the framework of a formative pedagogical experiment, two groups were formed: a control group (CG) and an experimental group (EG), with 20 individuals in each. Both groups trained according to the IIHF program "Learn to Play Hockey." Level D [1]. When optimizing the training process of hockey players aged 10–13 years in the EG, comprehensive assessments of physical development, physical, functional, and motor preparedness were applied, which made it possible to clarify playing positions, determine model characteristics, and assess the correspondence of the player's individual capabilities to the stage of training based on comparing the obtained results with normative requirements.

Results of the study and discussion. According to the conducted study, in the experimental group, physical indicators for all standards increased by 10–20% compared to players in the control group. At the end of the experiment, positive dynamics were revealed in the results of the 60 m run, shuttle run, standing long jump, pull-ups, 3000 m run, five-fold long jump, 36 m skating facing forward, 18×12 m shuttle run, 8-minute skating, as well as slalom skating facing forward with puck dribbling among hockey players in the experimental group, which indicates the high effectiveness of the measures implemented during the annual training cycle of young hockey players aged 10–13 years at the stage of sports specialization.

Conclusion. The effectiveness of organizing the long-term training process in hockey at the stage of sports specialization is determined by the need to apply a comprehensive assessment of sports preparedness of players of various positions (forwards, defensemen, goaltenders).
