The relationship between sport and politics from a sociological perspective

Objective of the study is to identify and substantiate the subject-specific and disciplinary characteristics of examining the relationship between sport and politics from the perspectives of political sociology and the sociology of politics.
Methods and structure of the study. The organisation of the material presented, based on the scientific and disciplinary correlation of the thematic block examining the relationship between sport and politics, is founded on the systematic application of comparative analysis of subject-specific aspects, theoretical and methodological foundations, functional tasks and scientific research methods characteristic of either political sociology or the sociology of politics.
Results and conclusions. The results of the comparative analysis of the subject areas of political sociology and the sociology of politics and, accordingly, of the theoretical and methodological foundations, functional tasks and scientific research methods demonstrate that this issue should be considered and addressed not in a single context, but in several different ones. The analysis confirms the existence of common and distinctive features in political sociology and the sociology of politics, which determines the criteria for subject differentiation and the targeted correlation of the thematic block of connections between sport and politics with each of the aforementioned academic disciplines, albeit in different ways.
