Go in Russia: its origins, development and current status (marking the 60th anniversary of the first tournament)

Objective of the study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the history of Go game in Russia.
Methods and structure of the study. The study was based on historical-genetic methodology and an analysis of published literature, whilst field methods (observation, interviews, and social media analysis) were used to characterise the current state of affairs.
Results and conclusions. The article highlighted the main aspects of Go’s game development during the imperial, Soviet and post-Soviet periods, and outlined its achievements and challenges. Data on the spread of Go game during the imperial period has been systematised, and information on the revival of Go in the USSR has been clarified. The article examined current trends in Go’s game development, described its organisational structure and highlighted future prospects. The article may be useful for research into the development of Go game and the promotion of this intellectual sport.
