Objective of the study is to provide a theoretical basis for a model of physical rehabilitation for combat veterans and their family members.
Methods and structure of the study. In this research project based at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, an analysis, synthesis and review of the literature were carried out; a model and scientific-methodological justification for the physical readaptation of combat veterans and their family members were developed, and conclusions were formulated.
Results and conclusions. The physical readaptation of combat veterans and their family members is a biopsychosocial process utilising adaptive physical culture (APC), comprising restorative, socio-psychological and family-centred components. The physical rehabilitation model has been developed on the basis of biopsychosocial, systemic, activity-based and family-centred approaches. Rehabilitation strategies have been identified for the target groups of veterans and their family members. The model comprises the following levels: individual physical readaptation, family physical readaptation and institutional organisation of physical readaptation. The model’s effectiveness is assessed according to physical, psychological and social criteria. The physical rehabilitation model for combat veterans and their family members enables the development of ‘biopsychosocial’ programmes utilising adaptive physical culture and sport to foster a family-oriented sporting lifestyle and the successful resocialisation of target groups into peaceful society.

Keywords: combat veterans and their family members, physical rehabilitation, model, adaptive physical culture, adaptive sport.
