Introduction. The health of students is endowed with a personal meaning, thereby acquiring the status of its value. In physical education classes at universities, it is necessary to disclose the content of the components of students' value attitude to health, namely: knowledge about human physiology, about a healthy lifestyle (cognitive component); health as an important value (motivational and value component); preservation and strengthening of students' health, including physical activity, proper eating behavior, etc. (behavioral component) [1].
The purpose of the study is to identify the attitude of modern students to their health as an important human value.
Methodology and organization of research. The study "Health as a value in the representation of Irkutsk students" involved 2,868 respondents – full-time students with physical education programs in Irkutsk universities. The age of the respondents is from 17 to 22 years old, 58% of them are girls and 42% are boys. The study was conducted between September 29 and November 28, 2025.
The results of the study and their discussion. Human health, especially among young people, is an essential component of human life. 56% of respondents take care of their health, 25% monitor it periodically, and 19% do not worry about their health. 76% periodically engage in physical education and sports, of which 28% are passionate about sports and are constantly engaged. 49% noted that there are enough sports facilities and sports sections in the region for regular training, 32% noted the high cost of equipment, rent and payment for regular visits to sports facilities. 62% of girls show great responsibility for a healthy lifestyle. Only 5% of respondents are involved in professional sports, of which 1% are winners and 2% are prize-winners of international, national and regional competitions and Olympiads.
Conclusions. The analysis of the conducted research demonstrates that the value attitude is a structural formation where the components of the value attitude to health are distinguished. Awareness of the importance of health and its value for oneself does not always encourage young people to work to preserve and strengthen it. A healthy lifestyle requires strong-willed efforts, and should bring positive emotions. The students demonstrated their involvement in a healthy lifestyle (daily routine, proper eating habits, physical activity, etc.). In the course of classes, it is necessary to provide biological, physiological, psychological and medical knowledge. There is also a need for a positive emotional component, the suppression of bad habits. Students should analyze and evaluate their health. The existing diversity of components boils down to three aspects: knowledge, values (motivating a person), and behavior. Thus, the structure of students' value perception of health is being formed, including all its components: cognitive, volitional, motivational-value.
