Development of speed and strength qualities in sprinters aged 1417 using special weights

Objective of the study is to determine the effectiveness of using special weights to develop speed and strength qualities in sprinters aged 14–17 years in comparison with traditional training methods.
Methods and structure of the study. 24 athletes participated in the study. The group of athletes was divided into two equal subgroups. The first group performed a traditional programme that included acceleration over distances of 30-60 m, jump complexes and work on short distances without weights. The second group followed a similar programme, but the exercises included vests with a load of 5-10% of body weight, calf cuffs weighing up to one kilogram and belts with weights of up to three kilograms.
Results and conclusions. The use of special weights for sprinters aged 14-17 contributes to a more pronounced development of speed and strength qualities compared to traditional methods. The use of vests, cuffs and belts increases explosive power and improves the results of jump tests and starts. At the same time, the effectiveness of this method decreases in the absence of load control, which can lead to a violation of technique and increased fatigue. The most rational solution is to combine traditional training methods with weight training, which allows you to accelerate the development of strength qualities without compromising technique and reduce the risk of overload.
