Introduction. Painting, as one of the most popular art forms, plays a significant role in shaping the personality of young people. Russian humanitarian studies fully reveal the phenomenon of the formation of patriotism and historical memory among young people through art [1]. At the same time, a significant number of research vectors in this area remain insufficiently studied. For example, the role of painting in shaping the patriotic education of students. In this study, we tried to determine the role of Russian paintings dedicated to sports in the formation of historical memory among students.
The purpose of the study is to get an idea of the level of impact of Russian paintings about sports on the construction of historical memory among students.
Methodology and organization of research. The scientific work was carried out at the Witte Moscow University in the period from October 2024 to January 2025. In the course of the research, 310 full-time 1st year students completed the survey. During the six practical classes of the History of Russia discipline, students were shown paintings by Soviet and Russian artists dedicated to sports subjects – "Relay Race" (1947) (artist A. Deineka), "Tennis Player" (1979) (artist V. Mylnikova), "Red Car" (2024) (artist M. Safronova) and "Judges" (2024) (artist I. Razumov). After completing the process of immersion in the world of sports painting, all students completed a questionnaire.
The results of the study and their discussion. Answering the question of whether, from your point of view, the historical epoch in the paintings presented has been reliably recreated, 92.3% of the respondents answered in the affirmative. At the same time, 77.8% of the survey participants indicated that the historical reality of a certain era is more accurately shown in the paintings of the Soviet period. When answering the question of which historical stage artists represent the national character of the Russian athlete more convincingly, 78.2% noted Soviet paintings, and 21.8% Russian. Answering the question about the importance, from your point of view, of all the paintings shown in the process of preserving the historical memory of a particular period of Russian sports, 92.7% of the surveyed study participants confirmed the significant role of the paintings presented in preserving historical memory.
Conclusion. In the course of the research, the following conclusions were made public: domestic paintings dedicated to sports play an essential role in the process of preserving and constructing historical memory among students; based on the survey results, paintings by Soviet artists are more accurate in terms of constructing the historical reality of a certain historical stage.
