Objective of the study is to assess the relationship between the speed of forming a visual image of gymnastic exercises (perceptions of them) and the main properties of the nervous system of students.
Methods and structure of the study. Two series of exercises were conducted: the first series involved simulating the motor actions being studied, which could be ‘unfolded’ in terms of the time taken to perform them; the second involved repeated presentations of the test object at a constant exposure time (0.45 seconds). The tachistoscopic method was used.
To study the properties of neurodynamics, methods developed by E.P. Ilyin were selected, which are used to study the psychophysiological aspects of educational, sports and work activities. The study involved 138 students from the Faculty of Physical Education: 70 young men and 68 young women aged 18-23.
Results and conclusions. One of the factors determining the visual perception of gymnastic exercises and the speed of forming an idea about them is the properties of neurodynamics: a weak nervous system in relation to the process of excitation, moderate expression of ‘mobility-inertia’ of the processes of excitation and inhibition, balance of nervous processes in young women and a predominance of inhibition in young men. Taking into account the identified dependence raises the question of the need to individualise the process of teaching motor actions and to develop more rational teaching methods that are adequate for the individual.
Keywords: perception of gymnastic exercises, individual differences, abilities, neurodynamic properties.
