Objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness and justify the advantages of introducing a lesson-section form of organising the physical education process for students in general education schools compared to the traditional lesson system.
Methods and structure of the study. The experimental work was conducted at a general education school with the participation of middle school students who were engaged in a lesson-section model based on the students' independent choice of athletics classes. During the school year, special attention was paid to developing the students' general endurance, strength and speed-strength abilities, for which long-distance running of low and moderate intensity, cross-country skiing and elements of sports games, exercises with a stuffed ball, active games with elements of running and jumping, sports games, and jumping exercises were used. At the beginning and end of the study, the comprehensive development of the students' motor skills was assessed using special tests.
Results and conclusions. As a result of the classes, which were organised in a lesson-section format, an increase was observed in all the indicators studied, but statistically significant changes were found in boys in terms of overall endurance and speed-strength qualities, and in girls in terms of strength endurance of the trunk muscles and mobility in the hip joints. In addition, the level of physical fitness of the students increased significantly, and they developed a more conscious understanding of the history and theory, techniques, competition rules, and requirements for organising athletics classes.
Thus, the lesson-section form of physical education has proven to be highly effective. It allows overcoming the key shortcomings of traditional lessons, such as low individualisation of the load and insufficient consideration of students' interests.
