Introduction. Systematic physical activity has a significant impact on the overall vitality of the body and the functioning of vital organs [2]. Sports have great potential in this regard. They can be used to promote the overall well-being of the younger generation [1]. However, further research is needed to understand the effects of different sports on the heart of young men.
The purpose of the study is to determine the characteristics of the heart of young men who train in the volleyball section.
Methodology and organization of the study. The study involved 15 clinically healthy students (17-18 years old) who had been training in the volleyball section for at least 1 year. The comparison group included 14 clinically healthy male students (17-18 years old) who were not interested in sports. The cardiac parameters were assessed using a standard ultrasound device. The data were statistically processed.
The results of the study and their discussion. The cross-section of the left heart chambers did not differ between the two groups of young men. The diastolic thickness of the posterior wall of the left ventricle was 12.5% greater in the volleyball players than in the control group. The diastolic volume was 8.7% higher in the athletes than in their untrained peers, while there were no differences between the groups in terms of stroke volume. The myocardial mass was 16.7% greater in the volleyball players than in the comparison group. The relaxation of the left ventricular wall was more pronounced than in untrained young men by 26.2%. At the same time, the volume of the left ventricle, the ability of the heart to contract, and the state of central hemodynamics were comparable in both groups.
Conclusion. Regular volleyball training leads to the strengthening of the heart muscle and the increase of its working parameters. This situation contributes to the growth of the degree of blood supply to all tissues and organs of the young body, creating conditions for the development of all physical qualities.
