Introduction. The emergence of such a type of free time as leisure, in particular sports leisure, among the working population is directly determined by the specifics of their lifestyle and their ability to work effectively. The relationship between work and leisure has a complex social context that needs to be considered within the framework of systemic conditions [1]. This helps to avoid simplifying the relationship between leisure and work as an addition. The relevance of this perspective is due to the existence of a narrowly specialized approach ("professional cretinism") in the current structure of the division of labor [2].
The purpose of the study is to identify the role of sports leisure practices among the intelligentsia.
Methodology and organization of the study. A sociological survey of the intelligentsia (knowledge workers) was conducted with a representative sample of 500 people in St. Petersburg.
The results of the study and their discussion. According to the survey results, intellectuals mostly work 6-8 hours a day (34% of the participants answered this way), less often 8-10 hours (28%) or less than 6 hours (26%). As for sports leisure, 13% are sure that physical activity definitely has a positive effect on labor productivity, and another 45% believe that sports contribute to professional success. Among the main reasons for exercising on weekdays, respondents highlighted maintaining their health (34% of respondents emphasized this). In addition to health care, improving physical fitness (27%) and enjoying the activities themselves (also noted by 27%) are important factors. About a quarter of respondents (28%) believe that organizing corporate sports events would contribute to the physical development of employees. 15% of respondents recognize the need for specialized sports sections within the organization.
Conclusion. Sports leisure, along with other ways of improving health in free time, is an important form of human development and has a direct or indirect impact on the work process.
