Objective of the study is to establish the relationship between the level of physical activity of students in the process of studying at a higher educational institution and their past experience related to sports.
Methods and structure of the study. In the course of the study, an anonymous survey was conducted, in which 165 students (75 men and 90 women) participated. The questionnaire included 52 questions regarding their sports experience, the duration of their chosen sport, the level of physical activity, key factors that reduce interest in physical education, as well as involvement in sports activities during the first semester of study.
Results and conclusions. The change of the educational stage, from school to university, is often accompanied by a decrease in the involvement of young people in physical activity and sports. An important aspect for maintaining students' interest in sports activities is to take personal preferences into account when planning sports events.
Keywords: higher school students, physical education, motor activity, behavioral motives.
