Features of interpersonal relations between an athlete and a coach-parent

Objective of the study to study the features of interpersonal relationships between a teenage athlete and a parent coach.
Methods and structure of the study. To achieve this goal, the following methods were used: the developed questionnaire "Athlete–coach interaction"; the scale "Coach - Athlete" by Yu.L. Khanin, A.V. Stambulov; the questionnaire assessment of coach's attitude to athletes (CART-Q) by S. Jowett adapted by K.A. Bochaver, D.V. Bondarev, L.M. Dovzhik.
Results and conclusions. At a young age, athletes whose parents are also their coaches show greater respect for qualities such as self-control, sensitivity and active involvement from their coach than their peers who train outside the family context. They are more likely to emphasize the "family" atmosphere, trusting relationships and individual approach as the foundation for forming a strong bond with the coach. At the same time, they may more often express disagreement with the coach's management style, but at the same time demonstrate a more positive perception of the training process and highly value the emotional support provided by a significant adult. Athletes who are not related to the coach emphasize the professionalism of the coach, his ability to help in overcoming difficulties by analyzing mistakes, providing rest or adjusting the training plan. They also value trust, support and motivation as key elements in establishing a good relationship. They are better able to understand the instructions and strategies offered by the coach. Coaches who are parents report higher levels of commitment and closeness than other coaches (as measured by the CART-Q).
Coach-parent and athlete-child relationships have unique characteristics that distinguish them from the traditional coach-athlete model.
