The aim of the study is to develop a programme for improving the technical and tactical skills of skilled table tennis players who play in the Asian style.
Research methodology and organisation. An analysis of the performances of leading Asian athletes at international tournaments was conducted, modern training methods were studied, and experimental training was applied to groups of skilled Asian-style players. Methods of pedagogical observation, video recording, expert assessment and mathematical and statistical data processing were used.
Research results and discussion. Asian-style players are characterised by aggressive attacks with an emphasis on fast top spins on the first strokes, a high tempo of play and dominance through forehand attacks.
Based on the identified characteristics, a methodology was developed that includes: exercises to increase serve variability (short and long serves to different zones); improvement of serve reception with an emphasis on active actions; practice of attacking actions on the 3rd-5th stroke with movement to the forehand zone; high-tempo sparring exercises with a time limit for completing the rally.
During the experimental sessions, the average rate of successful attacking actions on the 3rd-5th stroke increased from 68.4% to 75.6% (p<0.05); the number of errors in receiving serves decreased from 11.3% to 7.8% (p<0.05); the level of successful fast top spins in the first three strokes increased from 64.9% to 72.5% (p<0.05). These data confirm the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, which is focused on the specifics of the Asian style of play.
Conclusion. The developed programme for improving the technical and tactical actions of skilled Asian-style table tennis players contributes to increased effectiveness in attacking actions, a reduction in the number of errors when receiving serves, and an improvement in the quality of fast top spins. The use of this training programme is recommended for the further development of the strengths of the Asian style of play and to increase competitiveness in the international arena.
