The influence of intellectual development of basketball players on the efficiency of making game tactical decisions

Objective of the study was to identify the influence of intellectual development of basketball players on the effectiveness of making game tactical decisions.
Methods and structure of the study. To achieve this goal, an experiment was conducted from 2024 to 2025 at the RUS «GCOLIFK» and the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics. 20 basketball players - members of university teams took part in the survey. The Guilford Social Intelligence Test was used to assess the intellectual abilities of the players. The effectiveness of tactical actions was assessed based on video analysis of the final competitions of the ASB season 2024-2025.
Results and conclusions. The intellectually conditioned qualities of basketball players were revealed, which coincide with the characteristics of the subtests according to Guilford: the ability to communicate in a team, the ability to foresee the opponent's actions, the ability to determine the opponent's readiness for the game by non-verbal signs (fever, apathy, readiness), the player's ability to perceive rapidly changing conditions in the game, the ability to correctly choose a position on the court, as well as a 5-point assessment of the indicators of the level of intellectual development of basketball players. As a result of the correlation analysis, reliable relationships were obtained - the effectiveness of tactical actions is directly proportional to the level of intellectual development of a basketball player.
