Objective of the study was to identify the relationship between the oxygen consumption rate at the anaerobic threshold (VO2AnP) and age in highly skilled hockey players over three Olympic training cycles.
Methods and structure of the study. The testing was conducted over 14 years with the participation of 11 highly qualified hockey players (field hockey). To assess VO2AnP in laboratory conditions, a step test was used on a Monark 894 Peak Bike ergometer.
Results and conclusions. Long-term studies of the level of anaerobic fitness of elite field hockey players over three Olympic cycles have shown a tendency for the VO2AnP index to decrease with age. Negative correlation coefficients were found in 10 of 11 cases. In two athletes, these relationships were statistically significant at p < 0,01, and in one at p < 0,05.
