Objective of the study was to determine the levels of development of the balance maintenance function in hand-to-hand fighters of different qualifications.
Methods and structure of the study. The subjects were 44 second- and third-year students of a higher educational institution who were training in the hand-to-hand combat section: nine people had the title of master of sports, 16 people were candidates for master of sports, and 19 people had one year of training experience. The control group consisted of 22 clinically healthy classmates of comparable age who were not involved in sports. The balance function was recorded using the Stabilan 01-2 device under physical load. Student's t-test was used to process the data.
Results and conclusions. Training in the hand-to-hand combat section activates a person's ability to maintain balance. As the level of preparedness, which was judged by the existing qualification, increased, this function was more developed. Under fatigue conditions, the ability to maintain balance in hand-to-hand fighters decreased the less, the higher their qualification. It was greatest in masters of sports, which is associated with the development of their muscles, vestibular apparatus and the perfection of neuromuscular interactions.

Keywords: sports qualification, muscle activity, balance, body stability, Romberg test, hand-to-hand combat.
