Introduction. For the modern theory and practice of sports, studies of the body's life support systems that limit the competitive performance of an athlete are of great importance [2]. Their changes in the conditions of physical exertion in the main organs determine the peak capabilities of athletes [1]. In this regard, the state of the respiratory system in trained wrestlers of youthful age is of great interest.
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the development of the function of external respiration in young men attending the freestyle wrestling section.
Methodology and organization of the study. 12 young men who have been engaged in freestyle wrestling for the last two years participated in the scientific work. The recruited control group consisted of 14 physically inactive young men who had not previously been involved in sports activities. During the study, the values of the functional parameters of the lungs were monitored with further processing of the obtained digital values by the Student's t-criterion.
The results of the study and their discussion. In the observed wrestlers, the vital capacity of the lungs was very high and amounted to 5.86 ± 0.67 liters, while its value in non-athletes was 4.16 ± 0.42 liters. The differences between the compared groups in terms of the size of the forced vital capacity of the lungs were noted. In the wrestlers, it was 5.97 ± 0.48 liters, and in the control group it turned out to be very small – 3.89 ± 0.19 liters. The value of the forced exit performed during its first half second and during its first second, the wrestlers exceeded the control level by 32.7 and 35.7%. This provided the wrestlers with a biologically advantageous balance between the volume of exhalation performed forcibly and the value of the vital capacity of the lungs. At the same time, the athletes' average volumetric velocity in conditions of 25-75% of the value of the forced vital capacity of the lungs significantly exceeded that of their physically untrained peers.
Conclusion. Regular freestyle wrestling training contributes to the functional improvement of the respiratory system. Trained wrestlers have a highly developed respiratory system, which allows us to consider this type of sports activity as an effective option for the development of respiratory function in adolescence.
