Introduction. Rhythmic gymnastics is a beautiful and at the same time complex sport, which has gained wide popularity today not only in Russia, but also all over the world.
The purpose of the study is to identify its prevalence in the regions of Russia based on the analysis of the results of the performances of female athletes in rhythmic gymnastics.
Methodology and organization of the study. The analysis of the performances of the athletes of the Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team for the period 1996-2020 was carried out. Statistical data of Olympic rhythmic gymnastics tournaments were used as sources of information.
The results of the study and their discussion. As a result of the comparative analysis, it was revealed that to date, the number of Russian gymnasts who received awards at the Olympic Games included athletes from 16 regions of the country. The indicators show that the largest number of athletes were trained by specialists from Moscow. Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Omsk are the leaders among the other 15 regions, which indicates a high professional sports school in these cities and the availability of sports facilities for training activities.
During the first three cycles of the study period, rotation took place among representatives of seven regional training centers: Moscow, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Penza, Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod and Astrakhan. Since 2008, the Olympic team has been replenished with gymnasts from nine different regions. Gymnasts from the Moscow region, Penza and Volgograd brought three medals to the national team's piggy bank, and two from Rostov-on-Don. Specialists from Belgorod, Tomsk, Irkutsk and Elista brought up one Olympic medalist each. In 2013 the program "Development of rhythmic gymnastics in Of the Russian Federation until 2020", which provided for the further development of the system of federal and regional rhythmic gymnastics centers. The implementation of a number of points of the program led to the fact that at the Games in Tokyo for the first time the silver medal was won by athletes from Krasnodar and Vladimir.
Conclusion. Currently, there are traditionally the strongest schools, which for decades have been preparing the largest number of athletes who win awards at major competitions, including the Olympic Games. A system of sports selection and training of the sports reserve was introduced, which began to cover not only the traditionally strongest schools, but also regional rhythmic gymnastics centers.
