Introduction. The popularity of volleyball, which is a powerful means of physical development, among students will increase markedly in recent years, and its development has a very stable character [1]. The process of preparing the national teams of the university has a pronounced trajectory towards the training process of the teams of the highest sports skill. However, theoretical training, which does not require serious personal resources, sometimes does not find a place in the structure of training activities of student teams.
The purpose of the study is to identify the current level of theoretical training of participants of women's student volleyball teams of a non–core university.
The results of the study and their discussion. The women's volleyball teams (more than 100 people) participating in the study from various regions of the country (Moscow, Smolensk, Nizhny Novgorod, Tver, Irkutsk, etc.) showed an insufficient level of proficiency in the rules of the game, game concepts and situations peculiar to the sphere of communication of specialists in the volleyball industry. Indicative should be considered the fact that none of the respondents answered correctly all the questions of the questionnaire, which contained only the basic, basic provisions necessary for effective communication of subjects of educational and training activities. At the same time, the average rate of correct answers of respondents is 65%.
Conclusions. The analysis of the data obtained indicates the need to activate the theoretical training of student volleyball teams. It should precede all other types in the structure of integral training, and not be ignored by coaches, remaining out of their field of view, which leads to a sharp decrease in the effectiveness of the interaction of players with each other and with the coach not only in the process of training, but also competitive activities.
