Introduction. The problem of students' academic performance in the subject "Physical culture and sport (elective discipline)" in most non-core universities is explained by their lack of interest in this discipline. The credit requirements are reduced to two indicators: 100% attendance of classes + passing of minimum standards for OFP. In this regard, teachers should take into account the individual characteristics of students, their level of physical fitness.
The aim of the study is to increase the percentage of students' academic performance by increasing their interest in classes through the introduction of a point–based assessment system.
Methodology and organization of the study. To get a credit on the subject of "Physical Culture and Sport" (elective discipline), students in the methodical department "Football" of the Department of Physical Education of the National Research University MGSU need to earn at least 76 points during practical classes.
Students receive points for attending and passing control standards, in total you can earn 100 points, based on: attendance per semester = 16 weeks = 16 classes = 64 points; control standards = 4 blocks (general physical, special physical, technical and theoretical readiness) three standards = 36 points (max 3 points for standard, min 1 point) (see the table).
The results of the study and their discussion. The analyzed data indicate that, compared to the same period of the last academic year, academic performance increased by 7%: 87 students were "not counted" in 535 students (84%), 55 students were "not counted" in 599 students (91%). Compared with the spring semester of the 2021/202 academic year – by 5%: there were 75 "not counted" among 523 students.
Conclusion. The developed scoring system of students' assessment allowed to increase students' interest in classes, the need to take control tests not only for general physical fitness, but also for special physical, technical and theoretical fitness allowed to improve attendance, and as a result, the overall percentage of students' academic performance in the subject "Physical Culture and Sports" (elective discipline).
