Engagement of students of a technical university in systematic lessons in physical culture and sports

Objective of the study was to identify the resource capabilities of the sports infrastructure of a technical university to involve students in systematic physical education and sports classes, as well as their preferred types of physical activity.
Methods and structure of the study. A survey of 1st and 2nd year students of St. Petersburg Mining University was conducted in the amount of 1912 respondents. To determine the actual provision of students with sports infrastructure facilities, a one-time throughput capacity of the university's sports infrastructure facilities was calculated.
Results and conclusions. The survey showed that the majority of students of the 1st and 2nd courses consider the workload in physical culture sufficient to achieve the required amount of physical activity. In the future, when in the third year the number of teaching hours in physical culture will be less, in order to carry out systematic classes, students plan to do it on their own using various strength and cardio equipment.
Thus, in order to involve students in systematic physical activity, it is necessary to organize their independent work during extracurricular time in the implementation of pedagogical support, which consists in selecting a training program that is adequate to the physical capabilities and needs of students, assistance in mastering the technique of performing new exercises, developing and implementing digital online -services for conducting classes. In addition, equipping sports complexes with modern models of cardio equipment will help increase students' interest in physical culture and sports activities.
