State of athletics in the regions of the volga federal district in 2016-2020

Objective of the study was to determine the level of indicators reflecting the state of athletics in the regions of the Volga Federal District in 2016-2020.
Methods and structure of the study. An analysis of the literature on the topic of researching documentary materials, methods of mathematical statistics was carried out according to data covering a five-year period from 2016 to 2020, which is updated in real time in the “Ratings of Athletes” section of the unified information system. Based on primary data, relative indicators were determined that reflect certain aspects of the state of athletics in the regions of the Volga Federal District (VFD). Data collection was carried out in 24 athletics disciplines.
Results and conclusions. The data obtained in the course of the work made it possible to single out the regions with the largest average annual number of athletes in the ranking of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF), among which Tatarstan, Samara Region and Chuvashia are in the top three. The largest number of coaches, whose pupils are represented from the region in the ARAF rating, was found in Chuvashia, Tatarstan and the Perm Territory. The largest number of organizations whose athletes are represented from the region in the ARAF rating is noted in Udmurtia, the Perm Territory, Tatarstan and Chuvashia. The high average place of the region's athletes in the ARAF ranking per athlete was found in Tatarstan, Samara and Nizhny Novgorod regions.
Mordovia, Chuvashia and Udmurtia were among the three most prosperous regions in terms of the development of athletics in the Volga Federal District.
