Objective of the study was to predictive analysis of the development of the sports-oriented direction of physical education in Russia in the historical aspect.
Results and conclusions. It is proved that sports-oriented physical education is a popular direction in the development of the national theory of physical culture, which allows you to systematically use the values ​​of sports to solve the problems of physical education of a person, the formation of personal physical culture of those involved.
The degree of knowledge of important issues of the system of sports-oriented physical education, such as the definition of principles and technologies for the use of sports-oriented physical education in a mass general education school and its procedural components, has been revealed; issues of normative legal regulation of this area of ​​physical culture; ways of using sports activities, sports technologies, competitions and other values ​​of sports in the educational and upbringing process of physical education in order to form the physical culture of the individual involved.
The high status significance of sports-oriented physical education as an independent and system-forming direction of physical education of the population is confirmed.
