Objective of the study was to compare anabolic indices in athletes specializing in shooting sports, biathlon, bobsled, and snowboarding.
Methods and structure of the study. Sampled for the study were 146 highly-qualified athletes of both sexes (90 men and 56 women) who were examined in the pre-training period. The mean age of the men was 21.4±0.6 years (18-28 years), that of the women - 22.9±1.7 years (19-30 years). The immunochemistry analyzer COBAS e 411 (Roche, Germany) was used to measure the blood concentrations of testosterone (T) and cortisol (C). The anabolic index was calculated by the formula: AI (%) = T/C × 100%.
Results and conclusions. The comparative analysis of the anabolic indices in the athletes subjected to physical loads of various intensities and orientations did not reveal statistically significant differences between the groups. Almost all athletes experienced overexertion. The data obtained indicate the need for regular monitoring of athletes’ hormonal status throughout the training cycle to adjust and improve the methodological basis of training activities.

Keywords: athletes, testosterone, cortisol, anabolic index, biomarkers, adaptation, hormonal status.
