Objective of the study was to identify the relationship between various motor coordination abilities and higher mental functions of non-sports university students.
Methods and structure of the study. Sampled for the experiment were the 1st-3rd-year female students of Moscow Timiryazev Agricultural Academy. The subjects did not have a long track record in sports (above 5 years). The level of development of their motor coordination abilities was tested in terms of 7 specific abilities. Their higher mental functions were rated using the generally accepted methods.
Results and conclusions. The study found the relationship between the level of development of the subjects’ coordination skills and the state of higher mental functions, as evidenced by the high and average degrees of correlation. The greatest number of the average- and high-degree correlations of the coordination skills was found with such attention functions as reactivity, rhythmic ability, ability to maintain static equilibrium, and ability to coordinate individual actions into a single combination of movements. In terms of the memory function, an average-degree correlation was observed with the kinesthetic ability; rhythmic ability, and ability to coordinate individual actions into a single combination of movements.
