Objective of the study was to substantiate and develop a technology of formation of multicultural sports teams that would provide conditions for removing barriers to the cross-cultural adaptation of team members.
Methods and structure of the study. The technology was developed using G. Hofstede's parametric model, according to which the system of ethnic values are compared, with the following 4 cultural syndromes being the main ones: power distance; collectivism and individualism; uncertainty avoidance – tolerance of uncertainty; masculinity – feminity.
Results and discussion. The technology of formation of multicultural sports teams from the representatives of different cultures was developed. The technology aims at reducing the trait and state anxiety levels in the team members by creating a favorable environment for their cross-cultural adaptation to the new multicultural and social conditions. The need to develop such a technology arises from the difficulty to reduce differences in the cultural values of the team members, as well as from the immaturity of the principles and tools of cross-cultural adaptation used in the psychological practice to promptly ensure the psychological balance on the emotional, communicative, and behavioral levels. The proposed technology of formation of multicultural sports teams, mainly in team sports (football, volleyball, basketball, ice hockey, etc.), is based on G. Hofstede's parametric model and data of the developed symmetric matrix for cultural proximity. The more easily and successfully an athlete goes through the cross-cultural adaptation stages, the better his personal and team professional achievements. The authors conclude that the use of the symmetric matrix for cultural proximity reduces the likelihood of unacceptably high levels of the trait and state anxiety in the team members.
