Bodybuilding-based exercises to form physical and moral-volitional qualities in male students of field-specific university

Objective of the study was to substantiate the effectiveness of bodybuilding-based exercises in physical education and formation of moral-volitional qualities of male students of the university of physical culture.
Methods and structure of the study. Subject to the educational experiment were the 1st-2nd-year male students of Kuban State University of Physical Education, Sports and Tourism, Department of Physical Culture and Health Technologies – Experimental Group (n=15), and those of the Department of Adaptive Physical Culture – Control Group (n=15). Throughout the academic year, the Experimental Group subjects practices in the gym (twice a week, 90 minutes) focusing on the bodybuilding-based exercises, while their fellow students from the Control Group – on the body conditioning exercises. 7 tests were used to assess the physical fitness level of the young males. The level of development of their moral-volitional qualities was evaluated based on the Rokeach Value Survey, where 6 out of 14 indicators were singled out to characterize the personality profile based on a preliminary questionnaire survey. We also determined the integral indicator of formation of moral-volitional qualities of the subjects. The pedagogical control was conducted twice (in September and May of the 2018-2019 academic year) on the basis of the Department of Physical Culture and Health Technologies of Kuban State University of Physical Education, Sports and Tourism.
Results and conclusions. It was found that during the academic year, the integral indicator of the level of development of physical qualities in the Experimental Group increased to 131.7% and 115.1% (p<0.001); that of moral-volitional qualities – to 111.4% and 106.3% (p<0.01). Out of 30 coefficients of correlation between 7 physical skill tests and 6 indicators characterizing the moral-volitional qualities, 25 turned out to be statistically significant.
