Abstract
Objective of the study was to scientifically and theoretically substantiate the program of technical-tactical training in conjunction with the military-patriotic education of 8-9 year-olds by means of Russian draughts.
Methods and structure of the study. The experimental method adopted was to apportion the time allotted for the technical-tactical training of the 8-9 year-olds between the three stages of the game: opening, middlegame, and endgame. In accordance with the conventional method, the percentage of the time spent to practice the opening, middlegame, and endgame positions is about 30, 40, and 30%. The experimental method was designed to change the percentage to 20, 20, and 60%. Additionally, in the preparatory part of the training session, the discussions were held with the children to create in them motivation to achieve success, as well as the discussions of military-patriotic rhetoric and values and moral dilemma discussions. The educational experiment was conducted on the basis of Gymnasium No. 16, Central District of Krasnoyarsk. Sampled for the experiment were two groups of 8-9 year-olds: Experimental and Control Groups, 10 children each. At the end of the experiment, a competition of the school teams was held, followed by the statistical calculations of the competition results.
Results and conclusions. The study data demonstrated a significant competitive performance improvement in the Experimental Group. To enhance the trainees’ technical-tactical preparedness level and shore up their scoring, more time is to be devoted to practicing the endgame positions and building their volitional qualities in the educational and training process.
