Objective of the study was to determine etiological factors of development of endotoxin aggression in athletes.
Methods and structure of the study. We analyzed the concentration of endotoxin of gram-negative intestinal bacteria in the blood plasma and the antimicrobial humoral response rates in 79 athletes aged 18-20 years. The results of testing of apparently healthy people aged 20-40 years (n=30) were taken as normal values. The intensity of the specific antimicrobial humoral response was determined by means of an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay; we determined the concentrations of antibacterial antibodies to the following antigens of opportunistic pathogenic bacteria: blue pus bacillus, collibacillus, Proteus, bacteroides, Klebsiella, bifidum bacteria, and candida antigens.
The authors compared the platelet count in the athletes (Group 1) with the endotoxin concentration in the blood plasma (from 0.3 to 1.25 EU/ml) close to the physiological norm (from 0 to 1.0 EU/ml) with that in the athletes with a sharply elevated endotoxin concentration (from 1.5 to 5.0 EU/ml) (Group 2).
The statistical data processing was carried out by means of the software package MS Excel (Ver.5.0.) with the differences significance level of p<0.05.
Results and conclusions. The study found that the etiology of endotoxin aggression in athletes of different specializations has different origins, and that bifidum bacteria play a certain role in the mechanisms of its development. In particular, it was found that at a 2-3-fold increase in the concentration of antibodies to bifidum bacteria leads to a significant increase in the endotoxin content in the total blood flow.
