Objective of the study was to develop a block system of formation in university students of applied self-defense skills and verify its effectiveness by an educational experiment.
Methods and structure of the study. The educational experiment involved the first-year female students (n=70) of Reshetnev Siberian State University (Krasnoyarsk). The EG girls were trained according to the experimental block system, while the CG ones – under the traditional physical education curriculum. The block system of formation of applied self-defense skills in female university students is a complex pedagogical process, which is aimed to gradually form their readiness for self-defense, is carried out as part of an applied elective sports course with the use of exercises from the arsenal of Russian martial art, and includes the academic blocks designed to help acquire theoretical knowledge and master practical skills.
Results of the study and conclusions. The overall average increment of physical fitness rates in the EG was 35.9% (p<0.05), in the CG - 5.6% (p>0.05). Strong self-defense skills were formed in 79.8% (p<0.05) of the EG students.
The implementation of the experimental methodology in the process of physical education of university students made it possible not only to develop the applied self-defense skills, but also to increase their physical fitness rates.
