Objective of the study was to reveal the influence of the combined effects of motor and artificial normobaric hypoxia on the work in the aerobic power zone of highly skilled swimmers.
Methods and structure of research. Scientific observation was carried out in the laboratory of bioenergy of muscle activity at the Volkov Sports Biochemistry and Bioenergy Department of of Russian State University of Physical Education, Sports, Youth and Tourism (SCOLIPE). The work was carried out without risk to the health of athletes in compliance with all principles of humanity and ethical standards (Helsinki Declaration, 2000, European Community Directive 86/609). Subject to the study were active highly skilled swimmers (n = 10), specializing in short and middle distances swimming. The subjects performed a step test to muscular failure under the influence of the combined effects of motor and artificial normobaric hypoxia on the work in the aerobic power zone.
Research results and conclusions. The results of the study showed an ambiguous reaction to the physical work capacity indicators of swimmers with both single and multiple normobaric hypoxic exposure. Biochemical and physiological characteristics show different sensitivity with single and multiple hypoxic exposure. The effectiveness of using hypoxic effects depends on determining of functional systems restoration rate. With repeated hypoxic exposure, aerobic energy supply is suppressed and anaerobic glycolytic processes are enhanced.
