At the present stage of development of figure skating, lowering of the age limit for achieving the highest sports results and unification of the International Skating Union (ISU) judging system in application to novices, juniors and seniors require optimization of the annual training macro-cycle design technology in children’s and youth sports. Objective of the study was to design a pre-season training macro-cycle for figure skaters (10-12 year-olds) that would promote adaptation to the international competition system, and to create teaching materials based on unification of competition calendars for each age category. The unity of technology of designing annual training cycles in the children’s and youth sports and elite sports, provided that it complies with the age specifics and principles of sports training, will enable young athletes to further integrate into the categories of juniors and seniors at the optimal level of psychological readiness for the corresponding activity structure at a new stage and in various types of figure skating. The need for informational and methodological support, namely formulation of unified planning documents to be used during the training phase, is confirmed by the results of a questionnaire survey conducted among the figure skating coaches. The findings enabled to compile a unified calendar of competitions for different age categories (seniors, juniors, and novices), develop a unified model of the pre-season training macro-cycle, present lesson plans for various types of meso-cycles and micro-cycles.

Keywords: structure of competitive activity, mode of training macro-cycle, lesson plan.
