The present article covers the issues of formation of the Physical Education and Sports Faculty of Transbaikal State University, its development over 60 years and current state. Established in 1959 as a physical education department at Chita State Pedagogical University, it has run a difficult path of formation and development. The authors give accent to the key milestones in the formation of its structural units, organization and implementation of the main areas of training carried out on the faculty in different years - coaches, physical education teachers, specialists in initial military training and adaptive physical education. The article deals with the problems and achievements of the faculty. It examines the issue of material and technical support of the educational process. Considerable attention is paid to the characteristics of the administrative and teaching staff throughout the entire period of the faculty existence. Special priority has been placed on both individual skilled teachers and scientific schools on the whole. In addition, the article contains material about the most prominent graduates of the faculty. The authors have come to the conclusion that at the present stage the Physical Education and Sports Faculty of Transbaikal State University retains its designation as the primary training center for physical education personnel of Transbaikal and other regions of the Russian Federation..
