Comparative analysis of female students’ functionality versus physical activity regimen

Background. Academic physical education optimizing initiatives are driven by the social demand for the physically and spiritually healthy and progressing educated human resource and efficient physical education service for the young population by the education, sports, recreation and rehabilitation systems [3, 4, 6]. The academic physical education service is customized, as required by the valid theoretical and practical standards, to the actual health standards, physical development and physical fitness test rates, sport qualifications and the professional service specific responsibilities and requirements [1, 5], with the physical fitness and progress testable by the GTO Complex Class 6 tests [2, 7].

Objective of the study was to analyze the female students’ physical fitness versus the group physical activity based on the GTO Complex Class 6 test data.

Methods and structure of the study. Sampled for the study in the 2016-17 academic years were the 18-20 year old Samara State University of Economics female students (n=60) grouped by the physical activity regimes into non-sporting Group 1 (n=24); fitness Group 2 (n=20); and strength-intensive sports Group 3 (n=16). The groups were tested by the GTO Complex Class 6 tests, with the test data profiled versus the group physical activity classes.

Results and discussion. The physical fitness tests showed the strength abilities being the physical activity class dependent, with the highest test rates scored by Group 3 – that may be interpreted in favor of the academic strength-intensive training models for the female student population. Basically the physical fitness in the national academic system is tested by the GTO Complex Class 6 tests, and these tests showed leadership of the students going in for strength-developing sports both the strength tests and in the other physical qualities tests: see Table hereunder.

Analysis of the GTO Complex Class 6 group test data showed the following. The unsporting Group 1 was tested 8%, 19% and 24% fit for the Gold, Silver and Bronze Badges, respectively, with 49% rated unfit by the tests due to the inadequate physical fitness levels that apparently cannot be improved by the academic physical education service only. Fitness Group 2 was tested 28%, 19% and 20% fit for the Gold, Silver and Bronze Badges, respectively, with 33% tested unfit by the GTO Complex Class 6 tests. And the strength sports Group 3 was tested 68%, 19% and 9% fit for the Gold, Silver and Bronze Badges, respectively, with 2% tested unfit by the GTO Complex Class 6 tests.

Conclusion. Physical fitness tests of the academic female groups classified by the physical activity classes showed leadership of the strength-intensive sports group versus the health fitness group and unsporting group in many physical development and fitness aspects. It was found that the strength sports bring the highest and multisided benefits for the students versus the health physical education service as verified by the Group 3 significant progress in the functional and physical fitness domains.
