Modern volleyball gives a growing priority to attack rather than defense, with the teamwork limited by only three touches and the key role in the ball handling played by the first one, with the receiver expected to accurately send the ball to the right zone or teammate for success of the attack. A high-quality reception facilitates the combinatory teamwork in every zone along the net, with every defense player engaged in the attack to complicate the defense counteractions for the opposing team. For the last few years the sport discipline have seen emergence of new serves increasingly viewed as the strong attack tools. In tactical and practical terms, the modern serves may be classified into the float, power (top-spin) and target ones, each of them having a few versions (jump serves, underarm serves, varied ball tossing serves etc.). The study was designed to analyze the game data flow from the blocker to the power serve receiver – since they both are commonly referred to as the defense couple, with their actions largely dictated by the opponent’s attack i.e. being standard enough; plus the most informative signals in the attacker’s movement sequence that may be interpreted to forecast the serve style and direction and find the best defense solution.
