It is commonly acknowledged that public interest in the competitive aspects of sports may be employed as one of the most effective tools to lure people to mass habitual physical trainings. Objective of the study in this context was to find the ways to popularize the competitive aspects of modern veteran sports.
We have analyzed for the purposes of the study, among other things, chronicles of the popular global World Masters Games welcoming athletes from many nations of the world however distant they are. It is undoubtedly the competitive aspects of the Games that make them so popular and may be used to lure the still inactive national population to habitual trainings.
We believe that the Russian Masters community has long been in need of high-ranking and popular competitive formats for the home tournaments. Such all-round popular events may give a boost both to the veteran sports and mass sport movements in the country as verified by the national and global practical experiences. Such all-round events will facilitate the efforts to popularize the veteran sports and engage more people in the mass sport movements.

Keywords: veteran sports, masters’ competitions, veteran athletes.
